About the Department

The Department of Construction Materials and Biomaterials in its current form as a unit of the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering (currently the Faculty of Materials Engineering) was established in 2019 as part of the reorganization of UKW. It was created as a result of the merger of three previously existing units in the Institute of Technology: the Department of Fundamentals of Machine Design and Operation, the Department of Wooden Structures, and the Department of Fundamentals of Medical Bioengineering and Electrical Engineering. Despite the wide spectrum of research, the Department's employees focus their scientific activity on the broadly understood materials engineering. The department's laboratories are engaged in scientific research and didactic programs focused on wood, wood-based composites, metals, and biological materials.
