Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

According to MNiSW’s recommendation, in order to prevent the acts of „ghost-writing” - „honorary authorship” (when someone has made a significant contribution to the article without being credited as an author or co-author, or without being mentioned in the acknowledgements within the publication) and „guest authorship” (when the person’s contribution has been insignificant or they have made no contribution to the paper, and despite that they are credited as authors or co-authors), the School - Profession - Labour Editorial Board informs, that:

  • The authors are requested to define how each co-author contributed to the article (along with giving their affiliations and detailed information on the kind of their contribution, i.e. who is the author of concept, assumptions, methods, etc. used to create the paper), with the person submitting the manuscript taking the main responsibility;
  • The Editorial Board should be informed of the funding sources of the article, the contribution of scientific or research institutions, organizations and other subjects and all the people who took part in creating the manuscript at any stage of the process („financial disclosure”). The Author should put the acknowledgements in the title’s footnote;
  • Publishers and Editors, as well as the Journal itself will never encourage any research misconduct or knowingly allow such misconduct to take place. Publishers and Editors will take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers where such misconduct may have occurred. If the Publishers or Editors are made aware of any allegations of such misconduct, they will deal with them in an appropriate way
  • The Editorial Board documents any cases of scientific misconduct and claims that all such cases will be exposed, along with informing appropriate subjects (the institutions that employ the author, scientific associations, scientific editors’ associations, etc.)

All the parties involved in the creating of the Journal, i.e. the Publisher, Editorial Board, Reviewers and all the Authors are expected to apply ethical standards at any stage of their involvement. The standards set by the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE - https://publicationethics.org/resources/guidelines) are seen as a paradigm.

All the parties are expected to practise no discrimination on grounds of religious or political beliefs, origin, gender or sexual orientation.  Editors are expected to act in a fair and objective way, with academic merit as the priority and adopt and follow appropriate procedures if there are any complaints or misconduct. It is also their duty to monitor publication ethics.

Reviewers are expected to help to improve the published article’s quality through objective review of the manuscript, to maintain the confidentiality of the manuscript, to be aware of any potential conflict of interest of any kind, and withdraw from reviewing it if necessary.

Authors are obliged to confirm that the manuscripts they wish to publish have not been published anywhere else, nor they are under consideration for publication and to acknowledge, cite and credit all the sources where applicable. Author’s work must be original; if it contains any content reproduced from other sources, it must be clearly credited and the Author must have permission to reproduce that content. Authors must make the Editors aware if there occurs some conflict of interest.

If any unethical behaviour occurs, it must immediately be brought to the attention of the editors and publisher. All allegations should be taken seriously and treated in an equal way until a conclusion is reached. Initial decisions will be taken by the editors, who then should seek advice from the publisher, if needed. Any evidence should be gathered first before spreading any allegations. Depending on the severity of the breach, the editor and publisher decide whether the employers of the accused should be notified.

In challenging situations of publishing ethics abuse of any kind, the editors will base on the Publishing Ethics Resource Kit (PERK), available here: elsevier.com.

Publishers and Editors are always willing to publish corrections, clarifications and apologies, when needed.

The author confirms that all the information is authentic by submitting the manuscript for publication in the School - Profession - Labour periodical.
