學術研究興趣 (Research Interests)

Spanning discourse analysis, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, and linguistic anthropology, my research centers on ‘the linguistics of humor,’ ‘language, gender, and sexuality,’ ‘language and culture,’ ‘nonverbal communication,’ and ‘comic book studies.’ My principal research region is Taiwan, and my recent work has turned to various topics that include visual humor in comics, queer humor in mediatized interactions, complaining behaviors on social media, internet memes, and the (non-)linguistic construction of Taiwan’s localness.

My articles can be found in both linguistic and non-linguistic journals, among them Concentric: Studies in Linguistics, Contrastive Pragmatics: A Cross-Disciplinary JournalDiscourse & Communication, Gender and Language, Image [&] Narrative, Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics, Lodz Papers in PragmaticsReview of Cognitive LinguisticsSocjolingwistyka, and Tertium Linguistic Journal. Book publications include two monographs: Taiwanese and Polish Humor: A Socio-Pragmatic Analysis (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2017) and Pride in Asia: Negotiating Ideologies, Localness, and Alternative Futures (Cambridge University Press, 2025), as well as the edited volume Contemporary Studies in Chinese Languages, Literature, and Culture Vol. 1 (Kazimierz Wielki University Press, 2022). I am also the Chinese translator of Kim jest ślimak Sam? ‘Who is Sam the Snail?’, a Polish children’s book on gender equality.
