Michał Habel is a professor at Kazimierz Wielki University. He serves as head of the Department of Inland Waterways Revitalization in the Faculty of Geographical Sciences and is a member of the faculty's scientific council. Since 2005, Prof. Habel has served as an adjunct, assistant professor, and Vice-Dean for Science (2016-2019) and as a member of the Senate Committees for Science and Cooperation.
Prof. Habel managed international projects obtained through competitions, including research grants financed by the European Commission from the 7th Framework Program for Maria Cure-People-IRSES (acr. Flumen) and Horizon 2020 ( INTERACT Call I acr. KolymaSED and Call III acr. MackSED). For three years, he managed one teaching project financed by NCBiR from the POWER program. He obtained funds for the University (small equipment grants) from the Environmental Protection and Water Management Fund.
Prof. Habel assesses applications and ongoing projects at the National Center for Research and Development (NCBiR) in Poland, including Water4All, Era-Net, Poland-Taiwan programs, and domestic projects under the POIR (Smart Growth Operational) program, including as the chairman of the expert panel and a member of the evaluation team (evaluation of over 45 projects). He also evaluates "Polish Returns" projects at the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) and collaborates with the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Luxembourg on water management investment projects.
Prof. Habel is the Secretary of the International Committee on Continental Erosion (ICCE), which is part of the International Association of Hydrologists (IAHS). He is an active member of the Bydgoszcz branch of the Association of Communication Engineers and Technicians of the Republic of Poland. He is the court expert in the field of water management (including District Courts in Warsaw, Toruń, Bydgoszcz, District Courts in Brodnica and Tuchola).
Prof. Habel authored over 120 publications, four patents and one prototype, with the total value of the Impact Factor (IF) of his scientific articles published in 2018-23 being 100.54 (H-index 10).
